TYPES OF SESSIONS
Here is what the service delivery of intervention can look like.
COMPREHENSIVE - 90 MINUTE CONSULTATION + WRITTEN SUMMARY
At commencement of intervention and during the initial consultation, it is strongly advised that a child access a speech and language assessment. This allows the speech pathologist to learn about your child's specific communication skills and explore areas that your child requires support.
SHORT - 45 minute CONSULTATION + WRITTEN SUMMARY
If you have recently accessed an assessment and have a speech pathology assessment report available, a shorter initial consultation may be more appropriate.
PLANNING Speech PATHOLOGY INTERVENTION
My Local Speechie will work in collaboration with you and other professionals involved with your child to devise a speech pathology intervention plan. This plan will reflect your child's communication strengths and areas of improvements according to your family priorities.
45 minute therapy session
Children spend a lot of their time with their family. You are the most important foundation to help them with learning and development. Intervention is most effective when the speech pathologist works together with a family to improve a child's communication skills.
You are highly encouraged to attend and participate during each session with My Local Speechie.
If you are unable to attend a school or preschool session, we will have a follow-up chat over the phone or forward our notes via email.
Throughout intervention you and My Local Speechie will facilitate conversations to one another about how your child's communication, social skills and independence are developing. At appropriate points in time, we will review the goals that we had established earlier. Together may identify new areas to support your child, or find that your child's communication has developed to a point that is appropriate.
